Types of Extensions

Extensions come in many different forms.  Not every salon will perform all types of extension services as they are all very different from each other, and most extension services require the stylist to be certified.  Read below to find out the different types of extensions in the U.S. how they are different from each other, and which ones we provide.

Sew-In Extensions

There are two types of Sew-In Products.

Machine Weft Extensions are hairs that are sewn by machine into a fabric track by the manufacturer.  The hair is a little more bulky/ full which is great for those who want a lot more hair, or adding volume to hair.

Hand Tied Extensions are hairs that are sewn in by hand by the manufacturer.  This is labor intensive.  This type of weft is great for those who want a thinner layer for a more discreet appearance, or those who have low density hair to begin with.

The track is installed by a certified stylist who attaches a ring bead into a small section of hair in the installation area.  The track is sewn into the bead which is clamped to the hair to lock it in place.

Tape-In Extensions

Tape In Hair Extensions are installed by a professional at the salon.  This method involves thin strips of tape that have hair on one side, and a peel off tape on the other.  The clients hair is sectioned to match the size of the tape and tape extensions are added to both the front and the back of the hair section.  The adhesive on the extensions bond together  with the clients growing hair in the middle creating a “sandwich effect”.  These extensions grow out with the hair.
